Looking back over the last 12 months, it’s hard to comprehend what has happened to everyone, personally and professionally.
Yet we can say that overall the pandemic has made our business stronger, more resilient and as a family business, left us feeling incredibly grateful.
Like many retailers it’s been a year of up and downs. Fortunately, as we are both a bricks and mortar and an e-commerce business, this combination has made us more resilient. And as a small family concern we have been able to quickly adapt and respond to changing circumstances.
The first lockdown was very tricky. Business come to a grinding halt as the country followed guidelines and retreated inside. Care homes closed and Occupational Therapists went virtual, leaving assessments and visits non-existent. However, as more guidance came out and seating became more and more essential, work started to increase.
Our showroom has always been appointment only to enable a personal service for customers and their families and gives us the time and space to provide proper assessments. This meant we didn’t have to change our working practices too much when the pandemic hit. Cleaning increased, hand sanitisers bought, and PPE donned but availability remained the same. The main element missing was care home enquiries because, understandably, families could not see their families and arrange chairs for them. I think it will take time for confidence to return in that sector but rest assured, we are here when you need us!
Through the summer and autumn into winter, sales have steadily increased and we are delighted to say that via our professional body, the British Healthcare Trades Association, we have been classed as an essential retailer. This enables us to still offer the same care, personal service and back up which we always have provided, subject to rigorous hygiene standards.
This classification is very welcome news and it will help the whole sector weather the next few difficult months now restrictions are in force once more.
We are confident about the future with customer recommendations on the increase and we greatly appreciate that support. 2021 also welcomes new suppliers for us, including Recliners www.recliners.org.uk, who have a great range of both domestic and healthcare chairs made in Wales.
We are proud to support British manufacturing and value our strong relationships with our current suppliers, Repose Furniture and Electric Mobility. So we have many reasons to look ahead with confidence and plan to increase sales and keep growing in 2021 and beyond.
